Driving Directions to the Maine Humanities Council
The Council's offices are located in Portland's Rosemont neighborhood, in a small brick house located at 674 Brighton Avenue. Look for our unusual apricot-colored picket fence, and the blue and white sign!

DIRECTIONS FROM THE MAINE TURNPIKE

Exit the Maine Turnpike at Exit 47 (Rand Road / Westbrook Arterial Formerly Exit 7B). Emerging from the tollbooth, turn right and follow Rand Road until it ends at Brighton Avenue (Maine State Route 25). Turn Right. We are at #674 Brighton, about 3/4 of a mile from the intersection on the right-hand side.

You may also use Maine Turnpike Exit 48 (Riverside Street Formerly Exit 8). After passing the toll booth, turn left onto Riverside Street and continue 1/4 mile to the traffic light at the end. Turn left onto Brighton Avenue (Maine State Route 25) and proceed to #674 Brighton, about a mile from the intersection on the right-hand side.

DIRECTIONS FROM DOWNTOWN PORTLAND OR ROUTE I-295

Exit Route I-295 at Forest Avenue westbound (Exit 6B). Move into the left lane immediately off the ramp for a quick left turn at the first traffic light. You will be turning onto Bedford Street and will see the University of Southern Maine's Osher Library to the left and Pier 1 to the right as you turn. Continue past campus buildings on Bedford Street and a gentle curve to the right, after which you will come to another traffic light. Proceed straight through, and you will now be on Brighton Avenue (Maine State Route 25). After driving about 2 miles and passing through four sets of traffic lights (the last one being an intersection with Woodford Street and Columbia Road), be watching for the Council's brick building on the left at #674 with the yellow picket fence out front.
