Supporting Our Work

The Council depends on the generous support of individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies to serve the people of Maine through diverse public programs in the humanities and an open grant program for locally initiated programs.

The Maine Humanities Council is a private, nonprofit organization, with 501(c)(3) status under the IRS code. As such, gifts to the Council are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Please consider becoming a partner in the work of the Maine Humanities Council.

  • A gift of $30 provides a set of nine books for a new adult reader in our New Books New Readers book discussion program. These books are often the first books participants have ever owned and are read and reread by all members of their families.

  • A gift of $125 provides ten Born to Read book bags for a Head Start classroom. This movable library goes home with a child and encourages parents to read aloud. A Born to Read bag contains four books, and recipes, games, questions or props for "stretching" the books.

  • A gift of $1,000 supports a free Let's Talk About It book discussion group in a library. The Maine Humanities Council provides copies of the five books and a scholar to facilitate one of the 35 series available. Let's Talk About It makes a long winter a little easier for many Mainers, especially in remote areas.

You can give online or print out this form to mail to us. Thank you!
