Council-Sponsored Events in Maine
Experience the humanities in Maine! Attend a lecture series, see an exhibit or join a discussion group. The events listed here are either presented by the Council or by organizations that have been awarded Council grants. Please note that times and venues are subject to change. The Community Seminars consist of six intimate scholar-led discussions of books around a central topic. These meetings are held once a month for six months, January to June. A hot catered supper begins each discussion to allow ample time for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.
The Winter Weekend program begins with a Friday evening lecture and dinner (a gastronomic taste of the time and culture reflected in the chosen text). The group reconvenes Saturday morning to spend the day enjoying presentations by scholars on various aspects of the book, from cultural context, to critical analysis, to explorations of specific themes.
The Maine Festival of the Book brings writers and readers together to celebrate reading in Maine. Attend performances, listen to authors read and speak about their work, and meet some favorite authors at book signings. For more information.
