  • Dodo Gets Married by Petra Mathers. (2001) Ages 4-8
In this wacky and endearing story, Dodo woos, then marries, a cranky Coast Guard captain.
  • Hattie Baked a Wedding Cake by Toby Speed, illus. by Cathi Hepworth. (1994) Ages 4-8
Hattie absentmindedly bakes much of what’s needed for a wedding right into the cake, which she bakes in a tuba, causing some major gaps in the ceremony until Hattie saves the day.
  • Lilly’s Big Day by Kevin Henkes. (2006) Ages 4-8
Lilly’s teacher is marrying the school nurse, and Lilly thinks she’ll make “The World’s Best and Most Famous Flower Girl.” The only problem is that the job belongs to someone else!
  • Uncle Bobby’s Wedding by Sarah S. Brannen. (2008) Ages 3-7
Bobby’s niece, Chloe, is worried that she won’t matter to him after he’s married. The fact that Bobby is marrying another male guinea pig is only incidental to the plot.
  • Uncle Peter’s Amazing Chinese Wedding by Leonore Look, illus. by Yumi Heo. (2006) Ages 4-8
After all the traditional festivities (jumping on the bed, honoring the ancestors), and with some help from her new aunt, Jenny realizes that she’s still her uncle’s “awesome, special girl.”
  • The Wedding by Angela Johnson. (1999) Ages 3-7
When Daisy’s sister marries Jamal, the family is both joyful and wistful. The autumn wedding day creates memories that ease the transition of the sister leaving home.
  • Here Comes Our Bride: An African Wedding Story by Ifeoma Onyefulu. (2004) Ages 3-7
In Benin City, Nigeria, a wedding is the union of two families. It involves customs like teasing, playing tricks, and talking to ancestors, all made accessible by photographs and a familiar tone.
  • Weddings by Ann Morris, photos by Ken Heyman. (1995) Ages 3-7
Photographs and brief text show customs and costumes from weddings (defined here as between a man and a woman) around the world, including Morocco, Poland, Iran, Ghana, and India.
  • The Rabbits’ Wedding by Garth Williams. (1958) Ages 2-5
This inocuous tale about a playful courtship and wedding was very controversial in 1958, when some saw the union of a black and a white rabbit as an endorsement of interracial marriage.
  • The Wedding by Eve Bunting, illus. by Iza Trapani. (2003) Ages 3-7
Miss Brindle Cow helps other animals get to town in time for a wedding, which turns out to be her own. The rhyming text is full of interesting words like perch, proceed, and catastrophe.
