Born to Read training sessions provide information on best practices in fostering early literacy and related benchmarks of early childhood development. Child care providers, volunteers, and other caregivers consistently report that Born to Read trainings give them new ideas for making each reading experience with children stimulating and memorable.
Literature-Based Trainings
Many Eyes, Many Voices and Peaceable Stories are literature-based training initiatives that provide participants with strategies for using children's books to address a topic of social relevance and urgency. Participants receive a set of books and an Activity & Resource Guide to help them share the books effectively with young children. 6-hour trainings are generally offered in two 3-hour sessions over a two-week period. Most literature-based trainings are hosted by Maine's child care resource development centers (RDCs). Please contact your local RDC, visit our online calendar, or contact Born to Read at (207) 773-5051 to inquire about upcoming trainings.
Other Trainings
Born to Read also provides trainings to volunteers, family service providers, and other professionals. Speakers and facilitators have included children's librarians, authors, illustrators, and storytellers. Training content is tailored to best fit the needs of a specific audience. Most sessions are 2-4 hours long. To find a training near you, please visit our online calendar. For information about scheduling a training, please contact Brita Zitin.
