A program for K-12 teachers exploring the challenges modern Africa is facing

This one-day program, sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council, will use literature and film to explore politics, healthcare and urbanization in Africa, with professors James Webb, Jr, Mamadou Samb, and Catherine Besteman, of Colby College.

Tentative Agenda
9—10:30 a.m.: Understanding Current Crises in India & Pakistan (Lecture & Discussion)
10:30 a.m.—12 p.m.: Film & discussion (Film T.B.D.)
12—1 p.m.: Lunch
1—2 p.m.: Book Discussion, Temptations of the West, by Pankaj Mishra
2—3 p.m.: India and Pakistan in a Globalized World: Beyond the Headlines & stereotypes (Lecture & Discussion)

Tuition of $50 includes a copy of the text,
refreshments and lunch.

to the University of Southern Maine to the program on
