Anne Schlitt, Assistant Director, has been with MHC since 2009. She has worked primarily with the Council’s teacher programs, experimental humanities programs, events for the general public, the grants program, and communications, including managing the website. Born and raised in Michigan, she studied history at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. After graduation, Anne moved to Japan, where she taught English to high school students for three years on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme. Being overseas allowed her to enjoy travel adventures in Indonesia, Australia, and Egypt, as well as in Japan. She then went on to receive a masters in medieval history at St. Peter’s College at Oxford University before returning to the U.S. to work as a writer, editor, and web producer for various companies such as Britannica (Chicago), Kaplan University (New York City), and Tom’s of Maine. Anne also holds a Masters in Library Science from Syracuse University. She is President of the Board of the Bath-Tsugaru Student Exchange Program, is a member of the Maine Historic Records Advisory Board, and volunteers in hospice for CHANS Home Health Care. Anne, her husband Erick, and their daughter Willow enjoy hiking, sailing, cooking, caring for a small menagerie of animals, and of course reading.
