$1,000 to “Arts On The Hill,” Coastal Mountains Land Trust, Camden
Arts on the hill celebrates the synergy between art and the natural landscape in the setting of Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s Beech Hill preserve in Rockport, with the goals of inspiring creativity, engaging new audiences and demonstrating the value of land conservation through the arts and humanities.
$1,000 to “One Today – A Day with Poet-Laureate Richard Blanco,” Bangor High School, Bangor Public Library
Bangor HS and Bangor Public Library are celebrating Poetry Month by hosting a day with Richard Blanco. Mr. Blanco will begin by meeting creative writing students; they will share their own writing with the poet and hear about his creative process. Next, Mr. Blanco will speak to HS students from all curriculum areas about his life in a Cuban-American immigrant family, becoming a renowned poet laureate and his views on current social issues. To complete the day, Mr. Blanco will engage the community in a reading and discussion followed by a reception at Bangor Public Library.
$650 to “Making Connections Through Literature: A Books & Brunch Event with Maine Author Lea Wait,” Lincoln Academy, Newcastle
This program is a literary event designed to help Lincoln Academy students, faculty members and community members, together with middle school students and faculty members, connect through literature and history. Participants will connect with author Lea Wait to enrich the experience of reading and to help cultivate a culture of reading within our school and the greater community.
$1,000 to “Summer Series of Speakers at Alfred,” Friends of Alfred Shaker Museum, Sanford-Springvale Historical Society
This project will bring a series of four speakers to public events in the 2015 season at Alfred Shaker Museum. These speakers will augment programming. The focus is on diverse topics and speakers who have not frequently appeared before local audiences, authors, a film festival organizer who teaches film-making and a native American historian and craftsman. The sponsors plan to make videos of each event using high school students and disseminate the videos to a variety of venues.
