Talking Wires

The Social Impact of the Telephone on Rural Northern Maine

Talking Wires, an exhibit of the Presque Isle Historical Society emphasizes the impact the telephone had on rural life in Aroostook County. The exhibit will feature oral history interviews with retired local switchboard operators, historic photographs and memorabilia from the local telephone office, and antique telephones through the years.

An opening event for Talking Wires will be held in September 1 at 10am and feature a presentation from David Thompson of The Telephone Museum in Ellsworth.


 

Our Mini Grants support a wide variety of public humanities projects, such as exhibits, lecture and film series, reading and discussion programs, symposia, and cultural celebrations.
