The Friends of Alfred Shaker Museum (FASM) and the Sanford-Springvale Historical Society are sponsoring a series of speakers on four Sunday afternoons. The events will be free, although donations will be graciously accepted.

The series has been titled the “Sid Emery Memorial Forum,” after the late Sidney Emery, a member of both organizations, who died this year at the age of 101. Sid Emery lived in Springvale for more than 60 years and had many connections with Alfred

George Neptune is a historian of Native Americans in the state and a talented basket maker. He will speak on Oct. 25. A Dartmouth College graduate, he is an educator at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor and learned basketry from his grandmother when he was a child. He still works at it. His baskets have appeared in multiple shows at the Abbe.

The series has been organized with funding from the Maine Humanities Council and the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation, with additional support from the Alfred Historical Society and an anonymous donor.
