Born and raised in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Ian moved to Maine in 2013 as a Fellow with the Island Institute, living and working for two years on Deer Isle. Before moving to Maine he attended Appalachian State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Development with concentrations in community development and Appalachian studies. Ian has a deep interest in music, film, economic anthropology, documentary studies, folk and pop culture, the mountain south, and Maine’s Downeast coast.
In his spare time Ian can be found playing the banjo, listening to records, on the lookout for a good book or film, or exploring the woods, fields, and backroads of western Maine. He resides in downtown Norway, Maine with his partner Kim.
