Born and raised in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Ian moved to Maine in 2013 as a Fellow with the Island Institute, living and working for two years in Deer Isle-Stonington. He attended Appalachian State University and received a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Development with a concentration in community development and a regional focus in Appalachian studies. Ian has a deep interest in music, economic anthropology, documentary studies, folk and pop culture, the mountain south, and Maine’s Downeast coast.
In his spare time Ian can be found playing the banjo, listening to records, and always on the lookout for a good book or film. He resides in downtown Norway, Maine with his partner Kim.
