Ian Watkins comes to the Maine Humanities Council after living and working in Deer Isle-Stonington as an Island Institute Island Fellow from 2013-2015. Ian provides key support for the MHC’s communications and marketing efforts, maintains the MHC’s website and social media, and assists with fundraising efforts.
Ian attended Appalachian State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Development with a concentration in community development and a regional focus in Appalachian culture and identity. He has deep interest in history, economic anthropology, documentary and media studies, pop and folk culture, and Maine’s Downeast coast.
Ian was born and raised in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and is a practicing musician and avid listener of early bluegrass, classic country, and old-time music. He also considers punk and garage rock close to his heart. When not listening to records, Ian can be found just as comfortable with books and film, always eager to find a good read or movie. He resides in downtown Norway, Maine with his partner Kim.
