Lyman Moore

Middle School

In the spring of 2019 we offered a pilot program of Community Seminar at Lyman Moore Middle School. Facilitated by Maine poet LaLa Drew, forty students came together for a series of readings and discussions on The Rose That Grew From Concrete, a poetry collection by Tupac Amaru Shakur.

Picking several of their favorite pieces from the collection, students then practiced reading the poetry aloud to the group, fostering powerful discussions on resiliency, identity, and community.

Students also worked to create a short video showcasing their work!
