We are offering several book groups to all Maine Veterans / Former Service Members in the fall of 2017. Groups may focus on one longer text, like the Odyssey, or instead read selected short stories, novels, memoirs, historical texts, essays, or poems related to the experience of military service.

Bangor:

October 5 – November 9 | Thursdays 6-8pm

Veterans and Former Service Members of all eras are invited to attend this free reading and discussion group led by Jeffrey Sychterz, UMA Assistant Professor of English, U.S. Navy and Kirk Grant, U.S. Army.

The group will read and discuss poetry, essays, and short stories exploring the experience of returning back to civilian life after service in the armed forces. Copies of the readings will be provided and include works by Tim O’Brien, women who served from Vietnam–Iraq, ancient Greek authors, and more.

Springvale / Sanford:

October 16 – November 20 | Mondays 6-8pm
