$1,000 for “Welcoming and Safe Schools Youth Conference”GLSEN Southern Maine, Portland

  • The Welcoming and Safe Schools Youth Conference generates a safe and affirming place for middle and high school youth, along with their mentors and educators, to come together and share what they are doing in their schools and communities to increase understanding and decrease harassing/bullying behaviors. In addition to youth from schools, the conference will bring in non-profit agencies that are also working towards these same goals.

 

$1,000 for “Story and Song Programs for Young Audiences”– Maine State Music Theatre, Brunswick

  • Together with Curtis Memorial Library, Maine State Music Theatre will create two free hour-long children’s programs of story and song designed to explore familiar children’s literature from new perspectives and to introduce children to the magic of live musical theatre.

 

$1,000 for “Evangaline”PhoPa Gallery, Portland

  • This exhibition and book launch event at PhoPa Gallery will showcase Mark Marchesi’s project Evangeline. The project was inspired by H.W. Longfellow’s epic 1847 poem of the same name. The show will educate people about Longfellow’s work, and be a premier arts and humanities event in winter 2016/17.
