What a Piece of Work is a Man-a-tee

The Hugh Manatees are traveling again, and they want to visit your library!

Back to Library programs

Apply to host Hugh Manatee at your library this spring.
Deadline March 16, 2016

The Hugh Manatees are back! Last year, we sent Hugh, our manatee mascot, to libraries all over the state (more than 40!), where he joined book groups, did some knitting, got up to hijinks in the stacks, and more. Take a look at what Hugh did in 2015.

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy.

This year, Hugh is all about Shakespeare, in honor of the First Folio visiting Maine. We’re looking for libraries who want to send Hugh on some Shakespearean adventures—costumes and clever insults encouraged.

Apply by March 16, 2016. We’ll announce the selected libraries by March 18, and Hugh will begin his travels on March 21. Hugh will be sent with detailed instructions on how to capture and share his activities on social media so everyone can get in on the fun.

Applications are no longer being taken. We encourage you to be an armchair traveler along with Hugh, and share your comments too!
