If you’re a Winter Weekend regular, you probably know that this event is not a fundraiser; your attendance fee covers just the expenses. You may also have heard of Winter Weekend sponsorships. This is what they are all about.
Winter Weekend sponsorships support the MHC’s program for less confident readers: New Books, New Readers, which brings an in-depth reading and discussion experience to adults who are in the early stages of literacy. For these adults, talking about books is a completely new experience. And it is monumental for this audience to hear the Council scholar who is facilitating the discussion make clear how interested he or she is in the participant’s thoughts and opinions.
Each year, we provide approximately 30 New Books, New Readers programs statewide, partnering with adult education, family literacy, correctional education, and ESL programs. Annually, we serve around 600 low-literacy adults through this program.
As a gesture of our gratitude for your support of this important service, the Council offers Winter Weekend’s sponsors the following benefits:
- A chance to register early for Winter Weekend; we send you an invitation to register in June, many months ahead of the general public.
- An invitation to a sponsor-only fall program featuring a scholar previewing the next year’s book.
If you’re interested in becoming a Winter Weekend sponsor, please email Diane Magras, Director of Development, or call 207-773-5051.
