If you’re a Winter Weekend regular, you probably know that this event is not a fundraiser; your attendance fee covers just the expenses. You may also have heard of Winter Weekend sponsorships. This is what they are all about.
Winter Weekend sponsorships support the MHC’s program for non-traditional humanities audiences: New Books, New Readers, which brings an in-depth reading and discussion experience to low-literacy adults, immigrants, and people who have been incarcerated. For many of these participants, having a profound conversation around books is a completely new experience. And it’s monumental for many to hear the Council scholar who is facilitating the discussion make clear how interested he or she is in the participant’s thoughts and opinions.
Each year, we provide approximately 40 New Books, New Readers programs statewide, partnering with adult education, literacy volunteers, correctional education, and ESOL programs. Annually, we serve around 600 participants.
As a gesture of our gratitude for your support of this important service, the Council offers Winter Weekend’s sponsors the following benefits:
- A chance to register early for Winter Weekend; we send you an invitation to register in June, many months ahead of the general public.
- An invitation to a sponsor-only preview program featuring a scholar delving into the next year’s book.
